Peace Corps began in 1961, with an executive order from President J. F. Kennedy. More than 45 years later volunteers are continuing to serve around the world in the name of peace and friendship. By living and serving in a community, Peace Corps volunteers are able to share new skills and ideas with their host community, while at the same time learn about a new culture and way of life.
Peace Corps volunteers are currently serving in over 70 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Volunteers serve for 27 months in such programs as agriculture, environment, business, health, development, education, and information technology.
Over 850 graduates of Penn State have become Peace Corps volunteers. Recently, Penn State was ranked 16th on the list of large universities contributing volunteers to Peace Corps. Help us get Penn State to that #1 spot!
Peace Corps at Penn State is supported by Student Affairs and located in the Career Services Center. Student may schedule appointments at the center's front desk or by contacting the recruiter directly.
