General Information

As a UHS service to students, faculty and staff, and visitors to University Park campus, the University Ambulance Service (UAS) provides emergency care on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year except during the winter break.

If you are on campus and experience a serious or life-threatening medical emergency, dial 911.

The closest medical center is Mount Nittany Medical Center, a 200 bed acute care facility with 176 physicians in 42 specialties, located 2 miles from campus on Park Avenue. Please note: all hospital emergency room and inpatient fees are the patient's responsibility.

University Ambulance Service is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is staffed by a well trained and experienced emergency staff. UAS employs a full time Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Manager, an Instructor/EMS Supervisor, an EMS Supervisor, approximately 30 students as part-time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), additional EMTs and EMT-Ps for special events, and approximately 12 to 20 volunteer EMTs in the training program. The service provides Advanced Life Support level services at special events under medical command of an emergency physician from the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. EMS also provides numerous training programs for students interested in becoming EMTs.

This service and responds to approximately 1000 ambulance calls per year on the University Park campus. UAS responds to any calls dispatched for medical emergencies on campus or to assist other EMS agencies off campus. Though students are our main customers, we routinely respond to requests from employees, visitors, and event and conference attendees.
