MARIJUANA INTERVENTION PROGRAM
The purpose of the MIP program is to increase student knowledge about marijuana and to encourage the elimination and/or reduction of marijuana use while also increasing the use of protective behaviors to prevent negative consequences associated with drug use.
MIP is for students mandated by Penn State's Offices of Judicial Affairs or Residence Life and/or a Centre County Magistrate. Generally, MIP is for students who are found in possession of small amounts of marijuana or under the influence of marijuana on campus.
MIP is conducted with trained student interventionists, who provide individual educational interventions for referred students. The student interventionists are under the supervision of a Community Health Educator and a Master’s level graduate assistant. The program consists of two one-hour sessions. The first session is a needs assessment intended to evaluate an individual student's marijuana usage patterns. In the remaining session, the student interventionist facilitates discussion related to marijuana and the consequences of its use. Additional information is also often discussed as applicable, such as high-risk drinking, designer drugs, unplanned sex, and stress management. There is a fee for the program Please refer to the UHS fee schedule.
Referred students may contact the Marijuana Intervention Program at 863-0461 for more information. Further information may also be obtained in Health Promotion and Wellness in room 201 Student Health Center.
