Services
Student
Affairs provides programs and services designed to foster a more
positive learning environment and to improve the learning readiness
of students. Division departments provide direct services for students
seeking counseling, health care, career assistance, student activities,
conflict resolution and residence life services. See
listing of Student Affairs departments. See
list of Student Affairs services.
Focus
on student learning
Student
Affairs staff teach more than a dozen credit courses in leadership
and career planning and several staff have affiliate faculty appointments
in various graduate departments. Each year, Student Affairs offers
more than 500 educational programs designed to add value to a Penn
State education. These programs focus on personal growth, health
and wellness, ethics, spirituality, leadership development, appreciating
diversity, and career planning. See
calendar of Student Affairs educational programs.
Research
The
Student Affairs Office of Research and Assessment conducts valuable
research about student opinions and behaviors. The office also compiles
assessment research about Student Affairs educational programs,
Penn State student satisfaction and the office has completed a six-year
longitudinal study on Penn State's Class of 2000. Each academic
year, the office conducts about a dozen Penn
State Pulse surveys by contacting a large sample of Penn State
students via telephone or with an email/Web-based survey. To date,
more than 90 Penn State Pulse surveys have been completed.
