Where is CAPS located and what hours is it open?
CAPS is located at 501 Student Health Center. We are open from 8am to 5pm daily. Call us at 863-0395 to schedule an appointment.
Do I need to make an appointment ahead of time?
Yes, call us at 863-0395. Students who are in immediate crisis can walk in to our center for a possible same-day appointment. (Crisis Intervention)
Can I receive psychiatric services and medications at CAPS?
We provide limited psychiatric services to full-time students who are in therapy at CAPS. Please schedule an intake appointment first. If we are not able to accommodate you at CAPS we can provide a list of qualified psychiatric providers in the community.
Are there limits on CAPS' Services?
Full-time students are seen for an initial evaluation and referral session. If appropriate, they can be referred for a limited number of additional sessions. Part-time students can participate in CAPS groups if appropriate. (Limitations)
Is there a fee for services?
Full-time students are eligible for an initial consultation appointment at no charge. In some cases, you may be referred for additional sessions at no additional charge. (Fees)
Do you have specific counselors who deal with sexual orientation, ethnicity, or drug and alcohol issues?
All of our staff members are trained to address a range of concerns. (Diversity Statement)
Are your services confidential?
We adhere to professional and ethical guidelines that permit us to disclose information about you ONLY with your specific written authorization.
Will CAPS provide a workshop or lecture for my class or group?
CAPS provides outreach presentations and consultation to the PSU community. Please see our Outreach page.
What kinds of services are available at CAPS?
We offer intake appointments, group therapy, individual counseling, and crisis intervention, as well as psychiatric services. (Services)
What self-help resources are available?
CAPS offers a variety of self-help resources including informational pamphlets and screenings on our Self-Help Resources page. The Paul Robeson Cultural Center has a library of self-help books. University Health Services has the Hazen Library for medical references.
