Since the
late 19th century, the Penn State Greek community has been an
integral part of life for thousands of students, alumni, faculty,
staff and State College community members. Today, Penn State boasts
one of the largest Greek systems in the United States, with over
85 registered chapters and 4,000 collegiate members each academic
year. Under the leadership of University President, Dr. Graham
Spanier; the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs; and the office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Penn State University
is committed to building on the past and developing the future
of Greek Life. Greek Pride: A Return to Glory, continues
to provide a forum for positive change and hope for the future
of our Greek community and remains a top priority of both the
Division of Student Affairs and the University.
On
April 2nd & 3rd and 22nd & 23rd, 2004, the Greek Pride
Summits brought together over 250 stakeholders in the Penn State
Greek community including students, advisors, alumni, Centre County
community members, staff, faculty and national chapter representatives.
Within four days, stakeholders identified core values of the Penn
State Greek experience, shaped our collective Dream Statement
and generated Bold Ideas that will ultimately create a positive
future for our Greek community.
Eight Bold
Ideas emerged from the April Summits, resulting in the current
Greek Pride Bold Idea Action Teams. Current students,
alumni, administrators, staff, community members and national
office representatives continue to volunteer on one or more teams
listed below, and each is led by a senior staff member within
the Division of Student Affairs:
Standards and Rewards for Excellence
Leadership Training and Organizational Development
Partnerships with the University
Community Service
Greek Marketing: In Pursuit of Excellence
Financial and Fiscal Resources
Alumni, Advisor and National Office Engagement
Fun + Traditions = Unity
