James L. Moore
Director

James received his appointment to Director of Student Affairs Information Technology in September of 2004.

As the director, James is responsible for the staff and a broad array of IT services, including network administration, systems analysis, programming, graphic design, WEB development, computer equipment support and helpdesk services. He also serves on several committees.

Prior to accepting the Director's appointment at Penn State, James held several IT management positions during his 12 years with Corning Asahi Video Products in State College, Pennsylvania, the last being Manager, Information Technology Operations and Desktop Services. James received many Division Awards for his accomplishments.

Prior to Corning, James held many Information Technology positions with the General Electric Company in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, including Senior Systems Engineer, Project Leader and Project Manager. Systems implemented under James' leadership included an Automated / Networked Factory Floor Data Collection System and a Large Scale Automatic and Retrieval System. James received numerous GE Cost Improvement Awards.

James developed his initial approach to the following leadership model while working at Corning Inc. He expects to continue the development of the model in this position.

During his tenure with Corning, James served as the Treasurer of the Cultural Awareness Group, and as a member of the following key committees:

  Coaching for Success Supervisory Awareness
Leadership Council Career Succession Planning
  Diversity Design Cultural Awareness Group (CAG)
  CAG / Staff Diversity Subcommittee Diversity Continuum Workshop Subcommittee

James is a veteran and served eight years with the United States Army.

James received his AS Degree in Computer Science from Andover Institute of Business and his BS Degree in Computer Science from North Adams State College.

James also attended advanced leadership training conducted by the College Center of the Finger Lakes and Corning, Incorporated. Areas covered included:

  Dimensions of Leadership I and II Supervisor Effectiveness I and II
  Project Management Leadership 2000
  Diversity Leadership  

James and his wife Kathleen lives in State College, PA. Two of their daughters are Penn State graduates.
