In November 2001, Penn State University, University Park, welcomed Allison Subasic as the new Director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Student Resource Center (LGBTA SRC). Coming from the University of California at Davis, Subasic was Director of the LGBT Resource Center for three years. During her almost 20 years at UC Davis, she worked with administration and the UC Board of Regents to help gain domestic partner benefits for faculty and staff throughout the University of California system. She also served as an advisor for various student groups. Subasic also helped to set up non-discrimination programs and inclusive policies in UCD Athletics and other campus student services and departments. She served as a Sexual Harassment Advisor for eight years and as a Diversity Facilitator for three years.
Subasic left UC Davis and 2600 miles later, she arrived at Penn State to be the first Director of the LGBTA SRC. Since coming to Penn State, Subasic has set up the LGBTA SRC, and helped make it a welcoming, safe space for all students at Penn State. She has arranged for speakers, such as Keith Boykin (former advisor to President Clinton) and Shane Windmeyer (editor of Out on Fraternity Row), to come as part of the LGBTA SRC Speaker Series. She has also planned the LGBTA SRC Film Series, a bi-monthly series of films highlighting the diversity within the LGBTA community. Subasic has worked with Student Affairs and Educational Equity to transition the "Resource Room" from a relatively small space into the suite of rooms that now comprises the Student Resource Center. The Center continues to grow with additional resources, staffing as well as a collection of books, videos, magazines, and displays of various LGBTA information and resources.
In her spare time, Subasic enjoys cooking, kayaking, working out, exploring her new home in State College, PA, and spending time with her partner.
