Purpose:
Unlike more visible under-represented groups, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons cannot be readily identified. Likewise, there is no easy method of identifying persons supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues. The Network provides a way for supportive persons within the University community to prominently identify themselves.

About the Symbol:
network logoThe Network symbol, as shown to the right on this page, was developed by Chrysty Laske, a Penn State undergraduate majoring in Graphic Design. The Network symbol is based on the rainbow flag, which has become a symbol representing acceptance of the diversity within our entire society, as well as the more specific lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

Network Goal:
The goal of this program is to provide a more hospitable environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons by establishing an identifiable network of persons who can provide support, information, and a safe haven to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons within the University.

Network Objectives:

  1. To identify and mobilize a network of people empathetic and knowledgeable about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues and concerns.
  2. To provide evidence of that support by displaying a sign as a visible symbol.
  3. To reduce the fear of reprisal and discrimination of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons within the Penn State community
