Alyce Ritti says, "No matter
what I intend to do with my mixed-media collages, they turn out
to be very funny. They show a sense of the absurd."
Ritti's comic spirit that
wanders through the thicket of modern life traces the paths of "western
culture" in the clash and clatter of daily experience. She put together
ordinary, non-traditional art materials -- paper scraps and cut-outs
of all kinds, fabric remnants, pieces of lace, ribbons, straw, feathers,
used jewelry, old tickets, netting etc. (sometimes bits of
drawing or painting) -- in unusual ways to present small, perhaps
theatrical, scenes that show you the abundance of "the human comedy."
Do we laugh or cry? Of a recent solo show in downtown State College
, PA the reviewer in the Centre Daily Times said "Ritti creates
with an absolute awareness of her artistic tradition, however her
small collages seem to rebel against other traditions."
"...Viewers can expect to spend time in front of these works, looking
for the nuance, the little jokes, and the social and political commentaries."
This year, Ritti's works
has been shown at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto,
PA; the Alliance of Women Artists show at the Galleria Tondinelli
in Rome , Italy and the Art of the State, at the State Museum of
Pennsylvania in Harrisburg , PA.

Show at the Andy Warhol Museum ; the SAMA Biennial I; Franco-Americaine
