ALYCE RITTI

Mixed Media Collages

Alyce Ritti says, "No matter what I intend to do with my mixed-media collages, they turn out to be very funny. They show a sense of the absurd."

Ritti's comic spirit that wanders through the thicket of modern life traces the paths of "western culture" in the clash and clatter of daily experience. She put together ordinary, non-traditional art materials -- paper scraps and cut-outs of all kinds, fabric remnants, pieces of lace, ribbons, straw, feathers, used jewelry, old tickets, netting etc. (sometimes bits of drawing or painting) -- in unusual ways to present small, perhaps theatrical, scenes that show you the abundance of "the human comedy." Do we laugh or cry? Of a recent solo show in downtown State College , PA the reviewer in the Centre Daily Times said "Ritti creates with an absolute awareness of her artistic tradition, however her small collages seem to rebel against other traditions."  "...Viewers can expect to spend time in front of these works, looking for the nuance, the little jokes, and the social and political commentaries."

This year, Ritti's works has been shown at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto, PA; the Alliance of Women Artists show at the Galleria Tondinelli in Rome , Italy and the Art of the State, at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg , PA.

In 2004, Ritti's shows included "International Women Artists" at City Hall in Oslo, Norway; the Great Plains National in Hays, KS; and Images 2004 with the Central PA Festival of Arts.  2003 brought the Art of the State in Harrisburg , PA and the Salon d'Automne in Paris , FR.  2002 shows included the Annual Juried Associated Artists of Pittsburgh Show at the Andy Warhol Museum ; the SAMA Biennial I; Franco-Americaine and the Salon d'Automne in Paris , FR; and Global Collage, Art Addiction Virtual Gallery, Stockholm , SE.

In 2000, her portfolio was accepted by the archives of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington , D.C.

Ritti's collages are seen coast-to-coast in the United States ; venues throughout Europe include Paris , Venice , Stockholm , Central Europe , Oslo and Rome .
