Cultural Engagement Programs

Cultural engagement programs provide opportunities for all students, faculty, staff and the community to experience the practice, celebration, and demonstration of culture. Through a variety of performances and presentations, cultural engagement programs allow the community to experience the visual and performing arts as well as social and entertainment events. These programs serve to enhance the campus climate and social environment by providing opportunities for cultural interaction.

The World Cultural Festival

The Word Cultural Festival is a cultural kick off to the year with cultural performances, a global bazaar, cultural demonstrations, and a Taste of the Diaspora (International Food Samples). This is one of the major cultural festivals hosted by the institution.

The Spoken Word Lounge

The Spoken World Lounge is a partnership between The original program, entitled Bed, was created in the spirit of the bed time story-when bedtime was a quiet reflective time and an opportunity to impart wisdom and share values. In 2007, the program was renamed Dream and a Dream Big Slam contest was added to the structure. And in 2008, the program continued to reinvent itself with a new name, “The Stoop,” and moved to an outdoor location which reiterates the spirit of neighborhood connectedness and community building. Whatever the format and feel of the program, our lounge always offers a venue for expression of the spoken word and musical art.
