JENNIFER KANE AND MARK MESSENGER

PAINTING AND POTTERY EXHIBIT

Oct. 18  -  Nov. 21

Jennifer Kane is a professional artist and painting instructor. She grew up in the scenic Shawnee National Forest area of Southern Illinois . Her education includes a BFA in Painting and an MFA in Costume Design for Theatre from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign . She began a career in landscape painting in 1999, after moving to Central PA and working in professional and educational theatre. Her fine art work has since appeared in many regional juried shows and exhibits. Highlights include selection for the Art of the State show in Harrisburg, PA , Invited Artist and award winner at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College, PA and winner of the Knight Foundation Communities purchase prize award for inclusion in a body of work on permanent display at their corporate headquarters in Miami, FL.

During the painting process, Jennifer establishes a warm undertone on a white primed canvas, and then creates the image with thick, pure paint, applied with a knife. The manner in which the paint is applied allows color shifts and gradations to be dominant elements in the finished work.

Mark Messenger is known in Centre County for his pottery. He received his BA degree in Visual Arts at the New England College and his MA degree in Fine Arts from Penn State University . He has many different styles of pottery and likes to experiment with glazes and shapes. Mark's pottery is both decorative and functional. His high-temp stoneware is safe for microwaves and dishwashers and can be used for everyday living. Mark has taught watercolor and clay classes through Penn State's Continuing Education Department.

Mark has exhibited throughout Pennsylvania and the northeast.  He has won an award for his pottery in the Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Fair in 2003. He has also won awards in ceramics, sculpture, and painting.

Mark's work is currently for sale and on display at The Artisan's Conection in State College and The Gallery Shop In Lemont, PA.
