- :The purpose of this exhibition is to provide the opportunity for emerging student artists who work with a visual medium to display their work in a professional setting. Woven together with themes of social responsibility and social change, these artists will select and display their artwork for the duration of a semester during the 2007-2008 school year. The selected students' work along with a picture, bio of the artist, and artist's statement will be exhibited in the administrative suite window displays in the Paul Robeson Cultural Center. The artists' work will also be displayed in the Reflections Area of the Tunnel of Oppression in April 2008 in coordination with the overarching theme of social justice and art as form of activism, resistance to oppression, and a vital part of culture. This will also serve to expose the artworks of the emerging artists to the public at large and to the greater student body. A reception will be held at the opening of the Tunnel of Oppression to honor the students that participated throughout the year in the Starving Artist Exhibition.
As a part of the PRCC Programming Framework, the Starving Artist Exhibition serves to cultivate Cultural Engagement among students, faculty, staff and the community to experience the practice, celebration, and demonstration of culture.
