Specific Objectives of the FYE

Two sets of inter-related learning objectives serve as the foundation for Residence Life's efforts to aid first-year students. The first are referred to as Life Tasks for First-Year Students. They are:

  • Being on one's own without family and friends
  • Establishing an identity
  • Making friends
  • Getting good grades
  • Establishing future goals
  • Managing time
  • Maintaining physical/emotional/spiritual self

The second set of learning objectives are:

  • Intrapersonal Competence - The process of learning about yourself that leads to an understanding of others.
  • Interpersonal Competence - The act of making and maintaining social relations as well as understanding self and others.
  • Practical Competence - The development of skills to enhance your ability to manage your own life.
  • Civic Responsibility - Recognition of personal responsibility for the betterment of the living and learning community.
  • Knowledge Acquisition and Application - Obtaining a variety of information and being able to apply it to daily life.
