Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Hall Hauler program for Fall 2010.
Hall Haulers are persons who help new students and their families with unloading their vehicles and getting their belongings to their rooms. They also help a little with traffic control, running the elevators in selected buildings and other miscellaneous duties as required.
We are looking for friendly people with some "hustle", who are not afraid of staying busy and helping with a variety of tasks. That said, heavy lifting is not required. Students and their families are expected to handle heavy and unusually valuable items (computers, electronics, etc.) The Hall Hauler's main duty is to help students and their families get items onto carts and into residence hall rooms, and then return to the parking area to help the next family. Haulers are not expected to arrange rooms, assemble lofts, or set up electronic equipment, furniture or carpeting. A more detailed description of duties will be provided to each person that sign-up for the Hall Hauler program.
Hall Haulers will be expected to:
- Be friendly, yet efficient. Conversations should be brief and focus on welcoming the student to the university.
- Wear apparel provided by Residence Life that identify them as members of the move-in team.
- Be welcoming toward all new students and their families. As a representative of the Penn State University community, Hall Haulers will provide assistance and a positive, welcoming attitude to all new students and their families regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, national origin, etc.
- While political, religious, social, service, and fraternal organizations may take part in the Hall Hauler program, they may only expose these affiliations in the following manner while performing the duties of the position:
- Wearing a button identifying their group affiliation
- Providing brief information about meeting times, web site, or the organization's purpose verbally or in writing, in response to questions about the group by the student or his/her family's request
**Please note – there is not a group sign-up form, all students need to sign-up individually on the sign-up page.
