Penn State Pulse, which began in 1995, is a
survey initiative using Web and phone surveys designed to get a
better understanding of students' opinions on a wide-ranging list
of subjects. The findings are used in planning efforts by the University
when making decisions about programs and resources for students.
Recent topics have included students' tobacco use, students' religious
and spiritual needs, use of Counseling and Psychological Services,
students' alcohol use, and relationship violence.
The Pulse program employs approximately 30 students a year to
survey students over the phone. Computer-assisted software
is utilized,
and surveys are carefully scripted. Students are trained on
using the software and survey processes as well as on the policies
related to research using human participants through the Office
of Research
Protections.
Successful candidates for employment will be dependable Penn State
students with strong verbal communication skills, and be available
to work Sunday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 and Wednesday nights from
6:30 to 9:00 during fall and spring semesters. Pulse workers are
paid a competitive hourly wage. Applications may be picked up from
