Community, Civility, Diversity
Several research projects
have investigated the sense of community, civility, and diversity.
Undergirding our work are the six principles of Ernest Boyer's "civil community of learning."
| Faculty and students were
asked how well the campus climate was: |
- educationally purposeful - where academic goals are shared,
- open - where freedom of expression is highly valued,
- just - where individuals are respected and diversity is pursued,
- disciplined - where obligations to the group are defined and honored,
- caring - where each person is supported, and
- celebrative - where traditions are remembered
