GENERAL INFORMATION

Alcohol and drug education services offered by the Office of Health Promotion and Education (OHPE) at University Health Services include:

Alcohol Intervention Programs (AIP Levels 1 and 2; Level 3 is provided by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS))

Marijuana Intervention Program (MIP)

AIP and MIP are educational programs designed to aid students in making low-risk personal decisions with regard to alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs. AIP and MIP are offered for students mandated by Penn State's Offices of Judicial Affairs or Residence Life and/or a Centre County* Magistrate.

PROGRAM PURPOSE AND GOALS

AIP and MIP facilitate services that address:
 
  • Low risk decision-making by those who choose to use alcohol
  • Support and reinforcement of the decision not to use alcohol and other drugs
  • Intervention and/or referral for those abusing alcoholic beverages and/or other drugs
  • Abstinence education regarding the use of illicit substances
  • The goals are to:
     
    • AIP1 Goal: To reduce the likelihood that students will engage in behaviors that result in alcohol-related violations in the future.
    • AIP2 Goal: To reduce alcohol consumption, particularly high-risk drinking patterns and the negative consequence of high-risk drinking to self and others, as well as reduce the impact of high-risk drinking on the community (both on and off campus).
    • MIP Goal: To provide accurate information about marijuana and other drugs, and promote low-risk decision-making.
