ALCOHOL INTERVENTION PROGRAM, LEVEL 2
AIP2 is for students mandated by Penn State's Offices of Judicial Affairs or Residence Life and/or a Centre
County* Magistrate.
A student may be mandated to attend AIP2 if he/she:
| |
previously completed AIP Level One |
|
had multiple alcohol violations |
|
had evident misuse of alcohol |
|
had been charged with public drunkenness |
|
demonstrated serious lack of judgment related to alcohol consumption |
|
endangered themselves or others while under the influence |
|
damaged property or demonstrated extreme behavior while under the influence |
Certainly the above criteria do not encapsulate the vast array of alcohol related offenses that could warrant
mandated AIP2 sessions. However, the incident is generally more serious than an AIP1 offense, but does not
warrant separation from the University.
AIP2 is conducted with the assistance of trained student interventionists, who provide individual educational interventions
for referred students. The student interventionists are under the supervision of a Community Health Educator and the AIP2
graduate coordinator.
Students are required to complete the online Alcohol Assessment prior to scheduling an appointment.
AIP2 consists of two one-hour sessions. During the two sessions, the student
interventionist presents the computer-based feedback sheet with information about the student's drinking
frequency, blood alcohol concentration, drinking norms, alcohol related consequences, comprehensive affects of
alcohol, possible dependence indicators, and readiness to change. Other specific information is also often
discussed, such as marijuana, designer drugs, unplanned sex, sexual assault, binge drinking, and stress
management.
Cost: $100 per student (entire program, NOT per session)
A student who fails to notify the office (within 24 hours of appointment) that he/she will not be able to
attend a scheduled appointment will be charged a $22.00 fee. A second missed appointment will result in the
dismissal from the AIP2 program.
Referred students may contact the Alcohol Intervention Program number at 863-0461
for more information. Further information may also be obtained in the Office of Health Promotion Education in
room 237 Ritenour Building.
