Gail Hurley, associate vice president of auxiliary and business services at Penn State, has been named interim vice president for Student Affairs.

Hurley will oversee Career Services, the Center for Ethics and Religious Affairs, the Center for Student Engagement, Center for Women Students, Counseling and Psychological Services, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Judicial Affairs, the LGBTA Student Resource Center, the Paul Robeson Cultural Center, Residence Life, Student Activities and Union, and University Health Services.

Hurley came to Penn State in 1984 from Ohio University as the director of Residence Life. During the 1996-1997 academic year she served as an administrative fellow under the mentorship of Gary C. Schultz, senior vice president for Finance and Business, and treasurer.

"Hurley's broad range of exceptional management duties at Penn State in both business and student affairs make her uniquely qualified to help oversee an important area of the University," said Spanier.

Hurley previously served as assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs and director of Housing and Residence Life, a joint appointment between the Finance and Business and Student Affairs organizations. She was named assistant vice president for Housing and Residence Life in January 2003 and assumed the Food Service function in January 2005. Other recent duties include overseeing the operations of the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State Hospitality Services and the Business Services unit, which includes the Multimedia & Print Center, Procurement and Materials Management, and Transportation Services.

"The Student Affairs staff at Penn State is exceptionally talented, dedicated, and caring," Hurley said."I look forward to working with them once again and to serving and supporting our students in this expanded role."

Hurley also will continue in her current role and duties as associate vice president of auxiliary and business services.
